Literacy Home Page We aim to teach English so that children develop; a love of literature, confidence to express their opinions, a willingness to listen carefully to the views of others and the ability to write both factually and imaginatively. As a school we believe that every opportunity should be taken to develop speaking and listening, reading and writing skills, in all areas of the curriculum. Our main focus is to plan and deliver lessons that are interesting and provide a variety of opportunities for the children to produce high quality work. Some of our lessons will incorporate all aspects of Literacy, whereas some lessons will focus on a specific aspect. Waterloo School introduced the renewed framework for Literacy in September 2007 which involved all staff reviewing and adapting their plans. This has resulted in a greater focus on speaking and listening skills and more opportunities for the inclusion of ICT. Each year group relies on the support of parents to encourage children with their homework. This takes a variety of forms, depending on the age of the children, details will be in the children’s homework diary. A.Pettett |
