Year two is the final year of Key Stage One. Work previously covered in Year One is extended and consolidated and the children become able to work independently for sustained periods of time.
The three Year 2 classes follow the same curriculum and the pupils' work is planned together on a weekly basis by the Y2 teachers; Mrs S Tong [Y2ST], Miss C Irving [Y2CI] and the Year 2 leader Miss M Cherry, [Y2MC].
Throughout the year the children will complete SATs tests and tasks in English and Maths. They are also assessed by the teacher and the level is reported to parents in annual reports.

For Year 2 curriculum information for each term please go to the Y2 Curriculum Newsletter tab, or

We aim for learning to be fun and to build on what the children can do. Your child will be involved in a number of events throughout the year to promote this positive attitude to learning. These include, Maths Week, Fitness Week, Wesak festival Week and Science Week. During these weeks children will carry out exciting investigations.

Year 2 designed and made their own kaleidoscopes on their trip to "Pilkington's World of  Glass".

As part of Science Week pupils used the interactive smartboards to predict the effects of heating on various materials.

In the Autumn term Year 2 pupils thoroughly enjoy their visit to "The World of Glass" as part of their studies in Science when they explore Materials and how they change when they are heated and cooled.

Year 2 pupils visit St Annes' Synagogue in the Spring term. This visit links to our Year 2 topics in R.E and Art.We were amazed by the beautiful ark that held the precious Jewish Torah scrolls.

Year 2 homework

Homework is set on a Friday, which is usually in the form of spellings to practise at home. These can be found in your child's homework book.

Home work is to be completed each week and returned to school by the following Tuesday.

Please take time to read with your child for ten minutes every night and add a comment or sign their contact book when you have done this. Pupils who practise their reading regularly at home tend to make significant progress and it also helps your child in all areas of the curriculum.

P.E

Year 2 pupils do indoor P.E on Tuesdays and will require black shorts and a white T-shirt.

Outdoor P.E is on Thursdays and pupils will need to have warmer kit such as a track suit and also pumps or trainers. Please make sure that every tem of kit is clearly labelled.
